Welcome to St. Gianna Women's Homes

We assist women and their families fleeing domestic violence or who are being coerced into having an abortion. Each family is provided a safe and secure environment to deal with the trauma caused by the abuse, become self-sufficient and learn to develop healthy relationships in the future.

In the Spring of 2011, we opened on a new 24 apartment unit which is sorely needed for victims of domestic violence and those escaping abortion. This is in addition to the existing three bedroom home we already have. Collectively, this program is called St. Gianna Women’s Homes. We now have the capability to provide a safe place for over 100 women and children. Though it will serve women of all faiths in the Diocese of Lincoln, St. Gianna Women’s Homes will not make any recommendations or referrals contrary to the Catholic faith and is staffed by the Marian Sisters.

Using the Winter Season to Give Back to Your Community

While spring is around the corner, winter’s cold head hasn’t said its goodbyes quite yet. These are the kind of days that make it easy to stay inside and not leave your home for days on end.

But when cabin fever rolls around, why not use the winter season to give back to the less fortunate around you? Here’s how you can.

Turn One Scoop into Two
Depending on where you live, winter has been known to ruin lower backs by filling our driveways with snow. Sure, this may not be your favorite activity, but think how worse it is for some in your community. Maybe you have an elderly or disabled neighbor. Take the extra time to head to their driveway and lend a hand. You never know what kind of new friends you’ll make that sparked from your generosity.

Take Shelter
The onset of cold temperatures is bound to bring an influx of residents at homeless shelters and soup kitchens. Take this opportunity to donate your time where it’s most needed. Not sure where the nearest homeless shelter or soup kitchen is in your community? Do a quick online search to find a convenient location for you.

Lend a Hand, or a Jacket
It’s not winter without a local clothing drive to donate new or gently used clothes to the less fortunate. With the cold season, there may not be a better time to.

Don’t bust out your credit card quite yet. Since we tend to buy things we never use, or wear, go through the closets in your home to see what you don’t mind parting with. Donating to a good cause while cleaning and making room in your home? Sounds like a win-win.

While the fire may be so delightful in your home, try not to forget about those who don’t have the same luxuries as you this winter season. You may not be at home where it’s warm, but you’ll start feeling warm for other reasons.
